ALLEGRIA VILLAGE CHAPEL (formerly Henry Ford Village)

The chapel at Allegria Village is an important part of St. Alphonsus-St. Clement Parish.

Mass time: Saturday at 6:00 pm

Henry Ford Village, now known as the Allegria Village, is built on the historic Ford family farm, birth site of Henry Ford.

In 1993 the Henry Ford Retirement Village was just being completed when Fr. Arnold D’Achille became the pastor of St. Clement Church. The Village lies six blocks to the west of St. Clement. Without hesitation he inquired about the Catholic residents of the village and readily offered his service to them.  Because of its proximity, Father felt the responsibility to provide any kind of needed ministry, to the point of making the Village an integral part of the parish.

His Eminence Adam Cardinal Maida was gracious to come and bless the Village Chapel on January 31, 1999. At that time, he commented that St. Clement's relationship with a large retirement village would be a model for the rest of the archdiocese.

After the merger of St. Alphonsus and St. Clement parishes in 2015, this important and unique ministry continued. Many residents of the Village are registered parishioners of St. Alphonsus-St. Clement. Located in Chapel Court, the modest chapel resembles a typical small Catholic church that seats 270 worshipers, including a tabernacle where the Blessed Sacrament reposes. Since the buildings in the complex are connected, the Chapel can be reached without going outdoors.  Stations of the Cross line a small hallway next to the altar. The Village Chapel has been a separate parish worship site for over 33 years with Mass counts being submitted annually to the Archdiocese.

After the 4:00 Saturday Mass at St. Alphonsus-St. Clement Church concludes, Fr. Michael and Fr. Magnus drive to the Village to celebrate Mass at 6:00 in the Chapel. Typically, 60 to 70 residents, staff, care givers, family and friends attend. Many come with their walkers, wheelchairs and motorized carts. The Mass is also livestreamed via closed circuit TV to those in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing that have limited mobility. During the distribution of Communion at Mass, Communion is taken to the rooms of those watching by a Eucharistic Minister. Private and Communal Confessions and other Ecumenical Services, such as memorial services for deceased residents are offered.

Through this unique ministry, residents of the Village can actively participate in the Mass and be a part of our parish community.
